One of the best parts of this 12-day trek is seeing the huge, beautiful mountains up close, including the Mount Annapurna (8,091 m), Mount Annapurna II (7,937 m), Mount Annapurna III (7,555 m), Mount Annapurna IV (7,525 m), Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Mount Machapuchare (6,993 m) also known as Fishtail, Mount Manaslu (8,163 m),Mount Gangapurna (7,455 m), Tilicho Peak (7,134 m) and Pisang Peak (6,091 m) with their white snow tops shining under bright blue skies. The Ice Lake is especially wonderful, giving you wide, open views of these massive mountains. While walking, you'll also get to know the local Gurung and Thakali people's culture, visiting their traditional villages with colorful prayer flags and very old monasteries. The friendly local people, their strong stone houses, and yaks eating grass show you how people live in these mountain areas. The hardest but most thrilling part of the Annapurna Circuit is crossing Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters, the highest point of the entire trek. When you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment. Before getting to the pass, you'll visit calm Manang Valley, which sits between tall mountains and has small villages with Tibetan-style culture and quiet glacier lakes. Another important place is Muktinath Temple, a holy spot for both Hindus and Buddhists that has 108 special water spouts and a natural fire that never goes out, giving walkers a quiet place to think. After the pass, the trip goes on to Jomsom, a town known for its strong winds, many apple trees, and rough, beautiful land - it's also the entrance to the Upper Mustang area. Then you'll come to Yak Kharka, a peaceful high mountain field where yaks eat grass with snowy peaks behind them, which is a good place to rest and get used to the high altitude. The trek finishes in Pokhara, a lively city by a lake where you can enjoy Phewa Lake, busy markets, and more amazing views of Annapurna mountains - a nice change after the wild mountain paths.
