Tansen is a municipality in the Palpa district in western Nepal. Situated in the parkway in the middle of Butwal and Pokhara, on the peak of the Mahabharat range. Tansen is the capital of the Magar kingdom Tanahun. It is a hill town, high above the Kaligandaki River. Similarly, the narrow winding streets in Tansen are full of Newari shops, temples, hotels, as well as houses. Therefore, Tansen is an excellent walking place where one can experience various shorts and longs over exploring the natural landscapes of the country. 

Shreenagar Dandha in Tansen is an excellent spot for the sunrise view. Shreenagar Dhanda

A short hike starts with an early morning walk to Shreenagar Dhanda. The hill is at an altitude of 1482m and provides a magnificent view of nature as well as the local lifestyle. Likewise,  the hill is located at the north of the Tansen town. On the other hand, it is a suitable hike for those who are willing for a short hike in nature. However, the hike starts with the small Ganesh mandir in Tansen and ascends through open woodland to the plume of the hill. After reaching the ridge, turn right and stroll for half an hour to reach the Buddha statue. Hence, one can have a magnificent view over the George of Kali Gandaki river to the Himalayas. Likewise, descend to Tansen and start your other hike to another beautiful village in Ghansal.

Then, a three-hour walk passes through several hilltop viewpoints appearing on the highway about 3km south of Tansen. Furthermore, the walk is easier as it is mainly downhill with spectacular valleys from Bhot Danda. Besides, explore the Magar and learn about the culture and tradition of people over there. Finally, after some exploration return back to the village in Tansen

People in Tansen

As Tansen is the capital of the Magar kingdom Tanahun. So, it is clear that this place is highly inhabited by the Magar community. Besides, Magar Tansen is also home to the Newar community. Also, you can find that Midway between Pokhara and the Indian border, Tansen showcases some traditional old artistic Newari shops, houses, etc. Besides, the other communities that reside in this place are Brahmins, Chhetri’s, Gurungs, Limbu, Tamangs, and a few Bhojpuri and Tharus.

A hike in Tansen can be done any time in the year. The temperature in Tansen ranges from 28 degrees in the summer. However, the temperature may drop to 8-degree Celsius in the winter. During June and July, the region gets its monsoon rain. Therefore, the view in every season is extremely beautiful.

Day 1: Start your hike to Shreenagar Dandha and hike down to Ghansal village.

Detailed Itinerary

Early morning after breakfast, you can have an hour walk to Shreenagar Dandha. At an altitude of 1482m, this hill is at the north of the town. The hike starts with the small Ganesh mandir in Tansen.

Then, the trail ascended through open woodland to the plume of the hill.
