Kakani is in the Nuwakot district in Bagmati Pradesh of central Nepal. It is a scenic hill-station that is 29km away from the northern side of Kathmandu. Due to its diverse natural conditions and its viewpoint at an elevation of 2000m, it is one of the outstanding locations for refreshment and a short hike. Similarly, this place is rich in natural vegetation and offers views of stunning landscapes. Besides, the surrounding environment of Kakani is spotted with villages and farming platforms. The Kakani Day Hike starts with an early morning drive from Kathmandu to Kakani. The drive takes about 1 and a half hours. Starting a drive at 6 in the morning, we will reach Kakani Bazar at around 7:30 am. Strolling around the Kakani Bazar for some time, we will then have breakfast and start our hike at around 9 in the morning. The hike will be 2 hours long and pass through several Rhododendron forests and lush green hills. Then, we will reach the top at around 11 am. The top hill provides an excellent dramatic mountain landscape of Mid-central Nepal, with massive peaks such as Annapurna, Ganesh, Manaslu, and Langtang. Rhododendron blooming wild on the mountain slopes add more charm to the hike.
Later after sparing some time over the top we will hike down at 2 pm and reach Kakani Bazar at around 4 pm. Then we will have our lunch and drive back to Kathmandu. Therefore, the short and easy Kakani Day Hike provides you with the mesmerizing beauty of nature and natural landscapes.
Best Month for Hike
As for Kakani, Hikers are mostly encouraged to hike nearly all months of the year except for mid-June to mid-September. It’s the wet months of the monsoon times where the views are clogged with dark and heavy rainfall. Because of the clouds and dark weather, the surrounding becomes gloomy and the views are blocked. Similarly, the rainfall and the wet monsoon can cause disturbance to the hike as the route becomes slippery and difficult to walk. However, the surrounding becomes fresh with green lush vegetation during the month around June, July, August to post-monsoon of September.
On the other hand, March to May is the most preferable time for Kakani Day Hike with clear weather and the excellent view of Snow-capped peaks. Likewise, this season lets you witness the wonderful landscapes along with the blooming of seasonal flowers, Rhododendron. Also, during the month of Mid-September to February, the days are crystal clear with blue sky and a panoramic view of the majestic peaks.
Itinerary for Kakani Day Hike
6:00 am: Our trek guide will assist you from the hotel and drive to Kakani
7:30 am: Arrival at Kakani and sightseeing at Kakani bazaar
8:30 am: Breakfast
9:00 am: Hike from Kakani bazaar to Kakani hills which takes about 2 hours. The hill is famous for the panoramic view of the Himalayas. Besides, it is also a popular spot for a picnic. On your way uphill, you can observe various types of jungle hubs and plants.
11:00 am: reaching the top of the hill, you can spare some time witnessing the natural landscapes as well as snow-capped peaks. Then, visit Thai Memorial peaceful park which keeps alive the memory of the 113 victims of the 1992 Thai Airlines crash. Spend time exploring the village around the Tamang community.
2:00 pm: Start hiking down to the Kakani Bazar and explore some time around
